US media has called the cult sump water with carbonation or thinned down cough syrup. They're talking about the soda called Spezi, basically a mixture of cola and Fanta.
Now the producer of Spezi wants to start selling the beverage in Britain.
Nowhere else in Germany do they adhere to the purity law as strictly as in Bavaria. And that's a big problem for breweries who want to create new kinds of beer to combat stagnating demand. But that kind of creativity isn't allowed.
From July 22-24, Munich is hosting a festival in honor of 500 years of the Purity Law, where breweries from around Bavaria are presenting their beers.
