Germany is the second biggest contributor to the EU mission to Mali.

Canada will send troops and helicopters to Mali to join a UN peacekeeping mission there, Canadian media have reported. The helicopters are expected to replace a German contingent.
Mali's prime minister and government resigned without providing a reason. The country is months from a presidential election that will take place against the backdrop of a fragile peace agreement and instability.
Germany has noted a rise in asylum applications from Georgia now that its citizens can enter the EU visa-free. Authorities have warned the Georgian government it must fix the problem or risk losing its travel privileges.
