German Federal Tax Revenues Climb Unexpectedly

The Germany Finance Ministry, battered lately by a string of unpleasant financial news, announced on Tuesday that it had collected 1.5 billion euros ($1.6 billion) more in taxes than officials predicted in November. For the year, the ministry took in a total of 440.9 billion euros in taxes. The unexpected boost in revenues came from corporate tax collections and levies on tobacco and fuels. Officials also predicted that increased revenues would continue this year.
