German Court to Hear C&A Appeal

Germany's Federal Court of Justice on Friday said it would hear an appeal by clothing retailer C&A over fines incurred by the company after it offered an illegal storewide blanket discount. German retail laws prohibit stores from offering blanket discounts, and a Higher Regional Court in Düsseldorf ordered the company to pay a fine of €400,000 ($403,000) in October for breaking the law. During the week of the euro's introduction, C&A offered customers a 20-percent storewide discount if they used credit cards and later extended the deal to those paying with cash.
