German Blog Wins Freedom Award
June 15, 2005France-based press freedom organization Reporters Without Borders, in cooperation with DW-WORLD's "Best of the Blogs" awards, chose Germany's netzpolitk.org site as the best international Web log in its "Freedom blog awards." Netzpoltik.org deals with open source technologies, Internet users' rights and free expression in cyberspace. Internet users voted for the winners in geographical categories (Asia, Africa and Middle East, Europe, Americas, Iran and International) from among 60 blogs selected by Reporters Without Borders and profiled on their Web site. Other winners included the English-language Screenshot, for which editor Jeff Ooi was threatened in 2004 with jail for "insulting Islam," and US blog PressThink, focused on the media and free expression in the Internet age, the organization said.
