German President Joachim Gauck is on a two day visit to Israel to commemorate 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations. Gauck said friendship was possible despite differences of opinion.

On his first trip to Israel as Germany's president, Frank-Walter Steinmeier has expressed his country's "unfathomable guilt." He had visited Israel during his three years as foreign minister.
