From Off Limits to Tourist Magnet

More than 20 Years after the fall of communism, there are no longer any borders in the Harz mountains. Instead the region has developed into a popular tourist destination. Since 1992 the Harz narrow gauge railway has once again been taking tourists up to the peak of the Brocken mountain, more than 1000 meters above sea level, an area that was once off limits to tourists.
