Former Iranian president Mohammad Khattami denounces the trial of reformists accused of trying to overthrow the government

And we stay in Iran where the former president Mohammad Chatami has criticised legal proceedings launched against around a hundred reformists as "showtrials": He said the move would further weaken public confidence in the government. Around one hundred leading reformists went on trial on Saturday, accused of stirring up public unrest. It's the first time since Iran's Islamic revolution in 1979 that dozens of leading political figures have been put on trial. They could face the death penalty if found guilty. +++SYN-MAZ+++
