A 29-year-old Turkish woman, a former fiancée of one of the suicide pilots flying the United Airlines plane that crashed in Pennsylvania on September 11, 2001, testified in a Hamburg court on Friday. Aysel S, a doctor, said she got to know Lebanese Ziad Jarrah during her studies in Germany but had no idea why Jarrah trained as a pilot in the U.S. "I don’t believe there was ever anybody who was closer to him (Jarrah) than me," she said. "I wanted him to do something that would make him happy in his profession, but in hindsight I have to say that I didn’t really know him," she stressed. Aysel S’s testimony came during the start of the trial of 30-year-old Moroccan Abdelghani Mzoudi, a suspected member of the Hamburg terror cell involved in the September 11 attacks. Mzoudi faces charges of accessory to the murder of more than 3,000 people and membership in a terrorist organization and could be sentenced to the maximum 15 years. It is the second Hamburg terror trial, the first of which led to the conviction of Mounir el-Motassadeq in February.
