Deutsche Welle talks with prominent authors in some of the world's most vibrant metropolises, including Cairo, Mumbai, Jakarta, Lagos and Mexico City. "There are prettier cities, definitely," said author Guillermo Fadanelli, but Mexico City has a "special magic" to it. That's the way most of the writers DW visited felt about their cities. They may not be beautiful, but these metropolises where glamour and poverty, morality and immorality, joy and tragedy exist side by side are intriguing and inspire creativity.
