Conductor Kurt Masur
German conductor Kurt Masur is the recipient of a lifetime achievement award at this year’s Echo Classical Music Awards. Masur led the Leipzig Gewandhaus orchestra and played a key role in the peaceful demonstrations of 1989 that ushered in the end of communist East Germany.
