EU Commission Expects Economic Growth

Economic growth in the 12 euro zone countries is beginning to take off, according to a new report issued by the EU Commission. Exports are largely responsible for the current recovery, however, EU Monetary Commissioner Pedro Solbes said on Monday in Brussels, adding that the strong common currency will continue to inhibit growth in that sector. Despite this, economic growth should speed up even further in early 2004, the commissioner said.
