The Muslim Brotherhood has pledged more protests after at least 50 pro-Morsi supporters were killed in clashes with the army.
An Egyptian court has fined former President Mohammed Morsi and sentenced him to three years in prison. Separately, human rights lawyer and activist Mahinour el-Masry was given a two-year prison sentence.

Ahmed Shafiq, the former Egyptian prime minister seen as the major potential opposition in the 2018 election, will not run. Shafiq listed his five years away from Egypt in the UAE as one of the reasons for his decision.
Egypt is extending its state of emergency, first imposed following bomb attacks on two churches in April last year. An Islamist insurgency in Sinai has increasingly crept into other parts of Egypt, including Cairo.
