The shooting happened at a kiosk store belonging to the 59-year-old aunt in the western German city of Wiesbaden near Frankfurt.

Police said the motive of the attack by an unknown assailant, possibly between the ages of 20 and 30, was unclear and they were not ruling anything out in the investigation.

Wachs, 21, needed emergency surgery but was out of danger, Dresden said on their website.

"We are shocked, stunned and deeply affected," Dresden sporting director Ralf Minge said in a written statement.

"The entire Dynamo family stands behind Marc and his family. We will be there wherever our help and support is needed."
