DW's Bundesliga team of the week - Matchday 23
On a matchday that delivered over 20 goals, DW's team of the week certainly takes an attacking focus. Bayern had a Frenchman to thank for their change in pace, while Dortmund had unlikely hero in their home win.
Goalkeeper - Marwin Hitz
For the second consecutive week and after his efforts in the Europa League (pictured above), the DW team voted Marwin Hitz the keeper of the matchday. Although Loris Karius also put in a good display, amongst others, Hitz made a pair of outstanding saves that effectively earned his team a point. The Swiss keeper has become one of the league's best.
Defender - Christian Schulz
Captaining a Hannover team short on confidence and points is no easy task, but Christian Schulz stepped up against Stuttgart to guide his side to a much-needed win. Heroic defending, strong leadership and two goals sealed a top performance from the club legend.
Defender - Aytac Sulu
The Darmstadt captain has impressed all season, much like his team, and his sixth goal of the campaign nearly earned the newly-promoted side all three points in Bremen. Whatever happens to Darmstadt at the end of the season, Sulu has shown he's good enough to stick around.
Defender - Joshua Kimmich
Not a center back by trade, but certainly looking the part, Joshua Kimmich is doing the job for Bayern Munich at the moment. In the win against Wolfsburg, the 21-year-old once again showed why his presence in the heart of defense won't stop Bayern from clinching the title. Although a very promising talent, the youngster will still hope he doesn't have to face Juventus (pictured) again.
Midfielder - Franck Ribery
Right on cue, Franck Ribery delivered the type of performance both he and Bayern needed. The Frenchman was at his best, coming off the bench to change the game in Bayern's favor. Involved in both goals, Ribery's form is coming good just when Bayern's schedule gets busy.
Midfielder - Fabian Johnson
It's been a breakthrough year for Fabian Johnson, and once again the US star saved Gladbach. His equalizer in their 2-2 draw in Augsburg was a highlight in a thrilling game - and was further evidence of the American's techinical prowess.
Midfielder - Aaron Hunt
It's been a long time since Aaron Hunt has played as well as he did during his Werder Bremen days, but his performance on Saturday was close. Hamburg may have only drawn against Ingolstadt, but his movement for Hamburg's goal was worthy of recognition.
Midfielder - Yunus Malli
After nearly 800 minutes without a goal, Malli scored two as Mainz beat Leverkusen and continued their march up the table. Malli has been the club's playmaker this season and after opting to stay in January (despite interest from Dortmund), he is showing no signs of losing his form. He even scored his first Bundesliga penalty on Sunday.
Midfielder - Hiroshi Kiyotake
Pictured here against Hamburg, Kiyotake has long been the number one player for Hannover. While captain Christian Schulz scored the goals in the club's much-needed win on the weekend, it was Kiyotake's playmaking that proved vital. The Japanese star assisted both goals and was a constant nuisance for the Stuttgart defense. Without him, Hannover always struggle.
Forward - Vedad Ibisevic
When Ibisevic scores or assists, Hertha win. It's a simple rule and on Friday night in Cologne, it worked once more. The Bosnian was a controversial signing when the capital club picked him up, but he has proved doubters wrong with seven goals and four assists. Once again, he proved to be the difference.
Forward - Adrian Ramos
Ramos, pictured here with Marco Reus, has struggled for game time this season, playing only 205 Bundesliga minutes. Against Hoffenheim though, his substitute appearance proved a game changer as he headed Dortmund into a lead they would not surrender. It was only his third league goal of the season, but it must have tasted sweet.
