German Chancellor Angel Merkel and Germany's
UEFA opened disciplinary proceedings against Saint Petersburg-based Zenit FC after its fans displayed a large banner praising Serbian war criminal Ratko Mladic. The move came a day after Mladic was convicted of genocide.
After refusing to accept conditions to release millions of euros in aid, Dutch Saint Martin's premier has resigned. The Netherlands had called for assurances of accountability to release aid money in the wake of Irma.
Although Germany is left without a clear path towards a stable government after four-party coalition talks collapsed, Angela Merkel remains the undisputed chancellor - and she has a few new options.
