German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron are meeting to discuss the future of the EU. Both have presented their proposals and DW shows where they see eye to eye — and where they are at odds.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel and her French counterpart have vowed to introduce a single eurozone budget and emergency funding as part of far-reaching reforms. They also agreed to reduce the refugee flow to Europe.
Both countries exchanged acerbic remarks earlier in the week after Italy refused to allow a migrant boat to dock. Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said the dispute was over after meeting the French president in Paris.
France's Senate has voted in favor of Emmanuel Macron's reform plans for state rail operator SNCF. The reforms, which sparked months of strikes, are a key victory for Macron in his battle with France's unions.
