French President Emmanuel Macron is headed to Berlin on a trip aimed at bringing Chancellor Angela Merkel into his corner on EU reforms. But when it comes to European policy, the two leaders remain far apart.
Angela Merkel and Emmanuel Macron have said the reform plan must confront the challenges posed by Brexit and rising populism in the EU. The two leaders also commented on Russia's alleged nerve agent attack in Salisbury.
For the first time since 2007, France's public deficit is finally within the set EU limit. While boosting the president's aim of convincing Berlin to support eurozone reform, some now want to spend rather than save.
