VW knocks Mercedes from the football throne - The Brexit Effect - The Big Stink
Arms sales are increasing around the world. The current report from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) shows that the main beneficiaries are armaments groups in the US and Western Europe.
German media have reported that the German Football Association (DFB) might end its long partnership with premium carmaker Mercedes and switch to rival Volkswagen as the car sponsor for the national team.
So who has the ball right now? An easy enough question to answer in football, but harder on the political playing field - and even more difficult when it comes to Brexit, says Barbara Wesel.
Volkswagen, and its in-depth sponsorship of German football, was rocked by the emissions scandal, a year ago. Now Europe's biggest carmaker will partner international football's world champions until the summer of 2024.
