Turkey is imposing higher tariffs on about 20 US products ranging from sunscreen to cars, the government in Turkey has confirmed. The move comes in retaliation to Washington's duties on imported steel and aluminum.
The EU has officially imposed tariffs on US jeans, motorbikes, bourbon and other items in response to a similar move from the US. The measures have some experts worried the world could be heading toward a trade war.
US President Donald Trump has threatened new tariffs on Chinese imports, raising fears of an escalating trade war. Trump threatened further sanctions should China — which accuses the US of "blackmail" — retaliate.
American-German businessman Martin Richenhagen is far from happy about the Trump administration's aggressive trade policies. "We are surprised on a daily basis by strange initiatives," he told DW.
