The Trump administration has issued a list of immigration priorities that threaten to derail a deal with Democrats on protecting young immigrants known as "Dreamers." They include building Trump's promised border wall.
After Democrats said the US president agreed to a plan to protect "Dreamers," Trump denied a deal had ever been made. But the US president has suggested that an agreement could be just around the corner.
US President Trump has ended a program that granted amnesty for some 800,000 young men and women who were brought into the country illegally. The decision drew swift disapproval, leading thousands onto the streets.
Trump is poised to give Congress six months to "fix" the scheme that protects non-criminal childhood arrivals to the US from deportation. The move has been criticized by top Republicans an Democrats alike.
