Deutsche Post has signed a deal with the UK's Royal Mail giving the German postal giant access to its British counterpart's sorting and delivery network. Under the agreement, Royal Mail will deliver business mail collected and sorted by Deutsche Post. The German group is paying Royal Mail 13p (19 euro cents) to deliver each pre-sorted letter. At present, Deutsche Post, which has had operations in the UK since 1997, only deals with international business post which it sorts at its new UK headquarters in Croydon. Michael Proffitt, Deutsche Post managing director for Europe & the UK, told reporters: “This access agreement represents a highly satisfactory basis upon which Deutsche Post will provide a competitive and profitable business mail service to UK customers."
