The German airline Deutsche BA announced Friday that it would cancel some 500 flights in February and March because of slow sales and intense competition with Lufthansa. The service reduction represents the capacity of two Boeing 737-300 planes, the company said. Travelers with tickets on canceled flights will be contacted by the airline and offered replacement flights. The company said layoffs are also possible as it fights to survive a difficult business climate.
