Tornadoes continue to wreak havoc in the southern US. In Texas, entire neighborhoods were decimated within seconds and eleven people were killed, as twisters plowed a trail 60 kilometers long with winds of up to 320 kilometers per hour.
Several more people have been killed as multiple tornadoes touched down in Texas. Other parts of the region have been reeling from violent storms that have led to numerous deaths.
President Barack Obama is in Dallas following last week's killings of five police officers. The city has become emblematic of an increasingly divided United States, Texas native Tyson Barker writes in a guest commentary.
Parts of the US Midwest are now having to cope with snow, ice and heavy rain after a weekend of tornadoes and floods. 43 people have died across seven states in the last few days.
