International conflicts are no longer only being conducted with conventional weapons; cyber warfare is on the rise. There's increasing concern that national elections are being manipulated.
Ukraine provides an example of the damage cyber attacks can cause. Since war broke out in the country's east in 2014, there have been many a whole series of such attacks. In the presidential elections of May 2014, a group of pro-Russian hackers infiltrated the Ukrainian election commission's computers and spread fake projections. Energy companies, the railway and Kyiv airport have also come under cyber attack.
