The army captains Gerardo Gambala and Milo Maestrocampo were among the ringleaders of a failed coup against Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, the president of the Philippines in 2003. Now they have been handed out life sentences, while seven others have received jail sentences of 12 years and more.
