Christian Wulff is the new favourite to become Germany's next president

VideoassistentenJune 3, 2010

We begin here in Germany... where Chancellor Angela Merkel has chosen Christian Wulff, the state prime minister of Lower Saxony, as her preferred candidate to become German president. Wulff is a member of the conservative Christian Democratic Union. He is considered a progressive force in the government, but experts doubt he can provide a fresh start for the embattled center-right coalition. Germany has until June 30 to find a new head of state, following the surprise resignation of President Horst Köhler on Monday.
