Chile - A Life Devoted to Education

Nearly half of schools and universities in Chile are private and charge hefty tuition fees. But public schools are chronically underfinanced and offer an inferior education. Many parents and students alike have been protesting against this two class system. For months they've been calling on the government to invest more money in training the next generation.

Mary Anne Mùller has taken matters into her own hands. In 1991 she founded "Fundación Origen", a foundation that funds a school that offers a high-quality education to poor and disadvantaged young students. Some 400 students from Santiago and its environs are enrolled there. For the young students, it’s a rare opportunity that offers hope for their future.
