Passenger and freight train services resumed from Britain at 2 a.m. local time, and from France at 4.30 a.m. (0330 GMT) Sunday morning, operator Eurotunnel posted on Twitter, a day after a truck fire within the tunnel forced its closure.

"Our passenger service is currently operating to schedule with up to one departure per hour," the firm said on its website.

Kent police said the blaze was at the French end of the tunnel.

All train services were suspended between Britain and France after the fire was detected in the tunnel beneath the English Channel.

Eurotunnel issued a statement saying the CO2 alarm was activated before midday, Saturday, and the cause of the truck fire was still being investigated.

"If you were planning to travel today, we advise you to postpone your journey and not to come to the station," railway operator Eurostar said in a statement.

Eurostar is offering customers a refund or option to rebook within the next 60 days for travel within the next six months to passengers unable to travel due to the closure.

No injuries have been reported.

Some 400 trains and 1.5 million trucks cross through the tunnel each day.
