Carnival in the Italian city of Venice attracts large numbers of visitors every year. Venice provides the perfect background for colourful street parades and other celebrations.
Twenty thousand revellers, wearing masks and colourful period costumes, packed into St Mark's Square on Sunday for the "flight of the angel" marking the traditional opening of the Carnival of Venice.
Millions of revelers have braved cold winter weather to attend traditional carnival parades in Germany. The processions often take on a highly satirical note.
At the start of the 2018 carnival season, we wanted photos of you in your favorites disguise.
We were very curious to see how you or one of your loved ones would look in it.
Attention Carnival fans: Be aware that it can be a cruel fate to live in the Rhineland if you are a non-reveler. For when the yearly festivity comes to town it is accompanied by heavy drinking, garbage and aggression.
