Hailing from South Tyrol in Italy, close to the border with Austria, Carlo Speranza has been working as a sculptor for 10 years and took up photography last year as a way to stay grounded when his work brings him to a "fictional world of thoughts."

Carlo titles his picture "angry/hungry swan" and says he snapped the photo at a small lake near his home in spring just after the winter snow had melted. He has visited this lake since he was a child.

"The swan in the picture is the male of the swan family. He is always hungry and he is the guardian of the lake," says Carlo. "So, last year i was there. I walked close to the shore and the swan came out of the water and started to bite me on my legs. So in a split second i pointed the camera towards his open mouth and click! The picture was done. I guess he was in 'that' time of the season when he is in the mood to defend his territory and the mating partner.'

Carlo Speranza uses a 10-year-old Nikon DSLR with a macro 105 millimeter lens and a Motorola Moto X smartphone from 2013. He's is looking to upgrade to a Sony RX1 or Sony RX10.
