At the German Football Ambassador awards, Liverpool midfielder Emre Can has won the 2016 Public Prize. Can, also a German international, was chosen by fans from around the world and DW viewers. He will be taking over from 2015 winner Mesut Özil.
Already a world champion and cult hero, Bastian Schweinsteiger is now also German football ambassador. The Chicago Fire midfielder wins the audience prize, while Miroslav Klose and coach Horst Kriete are also winners.
Frankfurt-born Emre Can was one of the winners at the German Football Ambassador awards. The main prize went to Gernot Rohr for promoting Germany through international football.
World Cup winner Miroslav Klose is now at the German FA working on his coaching badges. He spoke to DW about his years abroad and the role football can play in integrating newcomers.
