Can Pakistan Beat the Insurgency?

14/07/08July 14, 2008

The Afghan President Hamid Karzai has directly accused Pakistan's intelligence agency of being behind a recent wave of deadly attacks by militants in Afghanistan. Karzai spoke in the wake of a suicide bombing in Uruzgan province on Sunday that killed 24 Afghans and an attack on the Indian embassy last week in which more than 60 people died. He added he favoured good relations with Islamabad but claimed that there were “elements in Pakistan's intelligence and Pakistan's army" which did not want a stable Afghanistan. Islamabad strongly rejected these allegations.
