Bundesliga Matchday 20 in pictures
It was a weekend of Bundesliga shocks, with one predictable exception. Hamburg's new number nine is living up to his shirt number and Torsten Frings is off the mark. Here are the best images from Matchday 20.
Papa-power
Kyriakos Papadopoulos (middle left) is not most people's idea of a number 9. But for the second week running, the big center back opened the scoring for Hamburg. This mighty leap meant two set-piece goals in as many games, both against his former clubs. Who need strikers?
Hope for Darmstadt
As first wins go, victory over Borussia Dortmund is not a bad one to put on your CV. Terrence Boyd (left) got the ball rolling for Darmstadt coach Torsten Frings when he slotted past keeper Roman Bürki in the first half. The 2-1 win for Darmstadt kept their faint survival hopes alive.
If Lewandowski can't score...
...then Arturo Vidal and Arjen Robben can. The Bayern Munich forward could not beat Ingolstadt goalkeeper Martin Hansen (left) or the crossbar, which prevented a second half thunderbolt from opening the scoring. Luckily for him, his teammates got the job done as Bayern won 2-0 thanks to two late goals.
Hug for Hazard
Thorgan Hazard (left) deserved a little post-goal love from his teammates after his exceptional early strike gave Gladbach victory over Werder Bremen. His team were in trouble going into the mid-season break, but they have climbed into the top half of the table thanks to three straight wins.
That Chicharito...
...is the Chicharito we know. Javier Hernandez took some pressure off of his coach with two fantastic goals in Leverkusen's 3-0 win against Frankfurt. He scored just three goals in the first half of the Bundesliga season, but with three goals in his last two games, he looks more like the star Leverkusen relied on last season.
Burgstaller ready for the top flight
Guido Burgstaller (right) spent most of the season in the second division, but he showed on Saturday that he deserves to play at Germany's top table. He gave Schalke the lead in the first half by beating Rune Jarstein (right) at the near post. He also had five other shots in the game and was all over the field to help Schalke beat Hertha 2-0.
Not so sweet 16 for Modeste
Cologne's prolific French striker grabbed his 16th league goal on Sunday but it wasn't enough to secure any points for Cologne. A late Maximillian Philipp goal ensured Cologne were the fifth side to miss the chance to go third and ensure every team from 2nd to 7th lost at the weekend.
Didavi inspires Wolves win
Daniel Didavi was Wolfsburg's hero on Sunday as he came off the bench to sweep home a Mario Gomez knock down and secure a 2-1 comeback win over Hoffenheim. The win gives the Wolves welcome breathing space from the relegation scrap.
Bojan's comeback begins
Bojan Krkic was once a highly touted prospect for Barcelona, but a fall from grace has led him to Mainz. He had a solid debut for his new club on Friday night, slotting in nicely behind Jhon Cordoba in Mainz's attack. Now his tasks is to start getting on the score sheet, which Cordoba and Öztunali did in Mainz's 3-0 win for Ingolstadt.
