Germany's T-Online International AG, Europe's largest Internet service provider, reported its third straight quarterly profit in the first three months of this year thanks largely to more customers signing up for faster Internet access and fewer writedowns. The company, based near Frankfurt, registered a net income of €79.3 million ($94 million) for the first quarter of 2004 compared with a net loss of €31.3 million a year earlier. T-Online's total customer base grew to 13.4 million at the end of March from 13.1 million at the end of last year, including 280,000 new customers for its high-speed DSL broadband service. This month the company added services such as pay television and music download platforms and expanded its pricing structure in an attempt to consolidate its dominant position.
