The best future business locations in Germany are Munich, Stuttgart, and the region surrounding the junction of the rivers Rhine and Main near Frankfurt, according to a study by the consultancy firm Prognos and the German business daily Handelsblatt. The top three locations all scored high marks when it came to economic structures, low unemployment figures, and ability to compete. The study concluded that southern Germany is likely to have a far better business future than the northern half of the country. With the exception of the northern city of Wolfsburg, home to Volkswagen, the top 10 list of best business locations consisted entirely of cities and regions in the southern states of Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, and Hesse. Handelsblatt reported that generally, locations in the north and west of the country are looking at an "average" future, although the cities of Düsseldorf and Hamburg both scored well. The paper also identified eastern German cities such as Jena, Dresden and Potsdam as locations with a promising economic future.
