British pop legend David Bowie had to undergo emergency heart surgery in a Hamburg hospital during his tour of Germany, his management confirmed to the London-based news agency Press Association on Friday. The 57-year-old was apparently admitted to the hospital "with an acute heart artery blockage" after a performance at the "Hurricane Festival" in Scheeßel, Lower Saxony on June 25. The pop icon had to cancel 11 planned concerts in Europe as a result. Bowie, who left the hospital earlier this week, is said to be convalescing in his home in New York with his wife and daughter. In a statement Bowie said: "I'm so pissed off because the last 10 months of this tour have been so fucking fantastic. Can't wait to be fully recovered and get back to work again. I tell you what, though, I won't be writing a song about this one."
