Dortmund extend Sahin deal

Nuri Sahin will remain at Dortmund beyond his initial 18-month loan deal, which expires at the end of the season. The club triggered an option to buy the midfielder for a discounted fee of 7 million euros.

Nuri Sahin has joined Borussia Dortmund on a permanent deal after the club opted utilized their option to sign him for a cut-price 7 million euros ($9.7 million) from Real Madrid.

The midfielder has been on loan at Dortmund for almost 18 months with the club agreeing an extra release clause at the end of the 2013-14 season. Dortmund's media director Sascha Fligge confrimed reports from the local newspaper Ruhr Nachrichten, which revealed the confirmation from Chief Executive Hans-Joachim Watzke.

After becoming a vital part of Jürgen Klopp's title-winning teams, Real Madrid spent 10 million euros to sign the Turkish international midfielder in the European summer of 2012. However, Sahin struggled to settle in Spain and was hampered in particular by persistent injury concerns.

Hasty homecoming, now permanent

Sahin made just 10 appearances in Spain and then a further 12 matches on loan at Liverpool during the following six months, before returning to Dortmund in January 2013. Sahin made his second "debut" for the club at Werder Bremen, he has now played a total of 212 games for Dortmund in his career.

The long-term acquisition of the 25-year-old central midfielder appeared just a formality and he is the club's third confirmed signing of the forthcoming summer window which opens on the first day of July.

On Wednesday, Dortmund completed the purchase of Hertha BSC striker Adrian Ramos for 9 million euros, adding to the earlier deal to bring Dong-Won Ji from Sunderland on a three-year-deal.
