Lost in a good book? Read on for some top German titles -- in EnglishImage: dpa

I just read Wolfgang Langewiesche's classic Stick and Rudder, an Explanation of the Art of Flying. In a most comprehensible detail, the art of flying an airplane is vividly explained in mostly words. It is the best-ever writing on this topic, without a doubt. My hat is off to the late, exceptional Mr. Langewiesche who, in English prose, displays the outstanding German talent for getting it right, and in the necessary detail. - W. Eugen Flook

The last German book I read was a novel by Christopher Hein called Willenbrock about a used car salesman using his skills to gain on prosperity after the reunification of Germany. - Michael Anglemire

I'm reading a biography of Kafka (aptly called Kafka) by Reiner Stach. It's quite good. Whenever Stach describes Kafka's writing of a short story or novella, I take time out to read that work. Based on the reviews, I'm also looking forward to reading "Measuring the World" by Daniel Kehlmann. - Paul Raymont, Canada

Inkheart and Inkspell by Cornelia Funke
