Germany are targeting three medals at this summer's World Aquatic Championships with former world record holder Paul Biedermann leading a 39-strong team.

29-year-old Biedermann held world records in the 200m and 400m freestyle events at the World Aquatic Championships in Rome, back in 2009.

The world record holder in both disciplines, Biedermann will head into the championships with the world leading time for the 200m. Franziska Hentke has the best time in the 200m butterfly.

Germany head coach Henning Lambertz has set a modest target of three in the individual events after picking up 10 medals overall at the 2013 championships in Barcelona.

European champion Marco Koch is one other medal hopeful, as is European runner-up Christian Diener, whilst 17-year-old Florian Wellbrock makes his international debut in the open-water event.

Two-time world champion Angela Maurer of Mainz is competing for gold in the same discipline in an eight-strong team.

The championships take place in Kazan, Russia between July 24 and August 9.
