Julian Draxler had higher hopes for his pre-World Cup domestic campaign in Paris. The 24-year-old, nevertheless, oozed confidence as he discussed making a mark in Russia at Germany's base in Eppan.
The present is rather bleak for Bundesliga club Wolfsburg, who have again only managed to avoid the drop by winning the relegation playoff. On the women's side though, things could hardly be rosier.
Two seasons ago, Wolfsburg beat Manchester United and Real Madrid in the Champions League, but now the Wolves are in another battle to preserve their Bundesliga status. With two games remaining, the club is in turmoil.
After 55 seasons in the Bundesliga's top flight, Hamburg have been relegated despite victory on the final day. Elsewhere, Borussia Dortmund clinched fourth by the skin of their teeth as Hoffenheim claimed third.
