Berlin Christmas markets reopen

December 21, 2016

After a day of mourning, the Christmas markets in the German capital are open again. Only the market on Breitscheidplatz, where the attack took place, remains closed for the time being.

Now that the police presence has been increased at the numerous Christmas markets in Berlin and all over Germany, and security tightened with road-blocks and barriers, the markets can now be visited during their usual opening hours.

Authorities and operators were unanimous in rejecting a general closure of Christmas markets and cancellation of large-scale events.

The New Year's Eve party at Berlin's Brandenburg Gate is to take place as scheduled.
