Beate Uhse Bids for ‘Penthouse’

The Flensburg-based adult entertainment firm Beate Uhse said Thursday it had tendered an offer to acquire the U.S. mens‘ magazine Penthouse. According to the company, it is offering $62 million (€50 million) for Penthouse’s American publisher, General Media. Beate Uhse is currently the only non-American investor that has bid to buy the troubled smut purveyor. "The offer is part of our policy of international expansion," Beate Uhse spokesman Otto Lindemann said. The acquisition of Penthouse would transform Beate Uhse into an international player in the adult entertainment industry. The company has more than 291 erotic shops in 10 different countries and is also present in nine countries, including the U.S., with its Pabo adult mail order service.
