Bayern extend Rummenigge contract

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2019. The team announced the deal on Friday.

Rummenigge, who has been in the post for nearly a decade and a half, is one of the architects of Bayern Munich's rise to Bundesliga dominance and the top echelon of European football.

"Since 2002, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has been the chairman of Bayern Munich," Bayern supervisory board chairman Karl Hopfner said in announcing the contract extension. "This continuity is one of the main reasons that Bayern is one of Europe's best clubs in both a sporting and financial sense."

For his part, the 60-year-old former Bayern striker promised that nothing much would change in the next three years.

"We'll continue to work as we have done to achieve success at this level," Rummenigge said in a statement. "FC Bayern is a wonderful club, and I look forward to keeping on working with my colleagues."
