Bayern beat Man City 1-0 on Guardiola's return

July 20, 2016

Carlo Ancelotti won his first home friendly as Bayern Munich coach after Erdal Oztürk's goal in a dull affair. Meanwhile new City coach Pep Guardiola confirmed his interest in Leroy Sané.

A scrappy finish after a somewhat scrappy game. Reserve midfielder Oztürk's deflected effort wrongfooted Manchester City third keeper Angus Gunn after 75 minutes to hand Ancelloti the spoils in the battle of the new and old Bayern coaches.

Guardiola was given a warm welcome back at the Allianz Arena having just left a few weeks ago with another Bundesliga title in the bag. "It's nice to be back here again. It feels like I've returned home," he said.

If anything the focus of the photographers in Munich was not on the Spaniard but on Bayern's new Latin leader - Italian Ancelotti.

The coaches were definitely the star turns with both sides having a distinctly second string feel about them with many players, especially Germany internationals, still on holiday after the Euros.

Franck Ribery did stand out though after some excellent dribbing as he looks to put an injury-troubled past season behind him. David Alaba failed to converted his assist.

Ribery also got his shirt ripped but that was the only bit of rough and tumble in a typical pre-season game.

Transfer talk swirled around the contest with Mario Götze's return to Borussia Dortmund confirmed hours later.

A Götze got on the field for Bayern but it was his brother Felix, who is likely to be staying in the Munich youth team.

After the game, Guardiola also admitted City are pursuing Schalke forward Sané, who has also been linked with Bayern.

"Of course we talk to him. Schalke know we are interested but at this moment we don't have many possibilities to get him," Guardiola said.
