The UN human rights body has urged the Iraqi government and US-led coalition to review tactics in Mosul to spare civilians. The UN said the so-called IS fighters herd people into booby-trapped buildings as human shields and fire on those who flee.
With a "hard core of foreign fighters," the notorious militant group has positioned itself for its last stand in Raqqa. The US-led coalition against "Islamic State" has rejected any negotiated withdrawal of militants.

More than 25,000 people trapped by the Islamic State in Raqqa must be helped to flee, Amnesty International has urged. The group called on "all sides" - including US-backed forces - to stop indiscriminate bombing.
