Baby Universal - Handcrafted Indie Rock

March 18, 2011

Soulful rock with roots in the 1970s - that's the sound of Baby Universal, a newcomer band from eastern Germany. Lead singer Cornelius Ochs looks a bit like the Doors vocalist Jim Morrison.

The group’s name was borrowed from a song by David Bowie's band Tin Machine. Following numerous live gigs and a self-produced "unofficial" first LP, the five musicians signed a recording contract in 2010 and went on to release their official debut album in the summer. Baby Universal was also named Newcomer of the Year at the VW Sound Foundation band competition. We spent some time with the band at a gig in their hometown of Halle.
