Australia Funds Cambodian Tribunal

04/04/08April 4, 2008

Australia is bailing out the Cambodian side of the ECCC - or the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia - with half-a-million Australian dollars so that the court can at least pay the Cambodian staff in May while budgetary negotiations with donors continue. The UN backed court has been set up to try former leaders of the Khmer Rouge regime for their alleged role in one of the 20th century's worst atrocities, in which up to two million people died.
