The Syrian leader insists that his forces had turned over all their stocks years ago. That means, he says, that he could NOT have launched a chemical weapons attack. But that didn't stop President Trump ordering a missile attack on a Syrian airbase.
The Syrian government has said Israel targeted a military facility in Masyaf, killing at least two people. The target is believed to have been a Syrian government agency branch responsible for producing chemical weapons.

Pentagon and US allies in Syria claim Russian jets bombed an area occupied by the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces. The Kremlin denied the allegation, saying it had no incentive to bomb the pro-Western alliance.
A new safe zone would be a fourth of its kind, which Russian, Iranian and Turkish officials claim led to a decline in violence in Syria. But any comprehensive and long-lasting peace will require the weight of the UN.
