Football's Trump parody

Jefferson ChaseMay 4, 2016

Donald Trump's propensity for controversial statements has attracted the notice of Argentinean TV. A sports station is using the loquacious politician's "build a wall" speech to plug the upcoming Copa America.

A video made by the TyC Sports channel is becoming a minor hit on the internet, across portals such as YouTube. It splices together excerpts from the presumptive Republic nominee's notorious speech about how he would like to build a wall between the United States and Mexico, and footage of South American football players and fans.

The one minute and 11 second long clip is intended to promote the Copa America, which runs from June 3 to June 26. The US is hosting the event, and TyC Sports owns the Argentinean TV rights.

In the spot, audio of Trump saying things like "These are real killers - these are not nice sweet little people" and "We have no protection" are intercut with videos of Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero terrorizing opponents on the pitch.

"We need to build a wall, and it needs to be built quickly," intones the billionaire-real-estate-mogul-turned-populist-politician, as the video proceeds to show an Argentinean attacker bearing down upon goal.

The Argentine video is similar to an ad on Mexican TV last year for a football match between the US and Mexican national teams.
